Bryana's Michigan Story
June 4th, 2018
Michigan International Speedway tucked in the Irish Hills of Michigan, is the home track to Canadians and Michiganders. But, it also has an energy you do not seem to get from other tracks. As Michigan celebrates its 50th anniversary this race season I took time to realize why some people have been attending races there just as long.
I have been going to MIS for about 12 years. Not only for the racing but the camping and fan experience as well. Camping at MIS for these 12 years, we were placed next to the same people. A group from Wisconsin and another group from Canada. The campground held a lot of decorating contests that many fans got involved with. Sharing drinks around any campfire you came across and stories of past experiences at Michigan. The people there became like a family even though you only saw them once, maybe twice, a year. If camping wasn’t your thing the track held many fan experiences. Saturday nights after racing there are free concerts. Nothing like keeping the party going with some good friends and music.
Dancing the night away, only to be able to get up Sunday morning and do it all over again. If music wasn’t your thing no worries there are games you can play. Michigan holds a corn hole competition, as well, allowing teams to compete in everyone's favorite bean bag toss. The track president and some drivers even got involved in the competition. If Bingo is more your speed they have that too.
Coming as a family? This speedway even has a kids club providing activities you can do at home later or at the track with your children. Michigan even has a garage tour for the young fans of NASCAR where they can see what happens behind the scenes. Lets not forget that every kid is free for the Xfinity and Truck races with kids 12 and under getting into the Monster Energy Series for half price.
Unlike some tracks, Michigan offers a variety of experience options with your ticket purchase. From watching the race on pit road to standing on the deck in turn three. You can experience the action in Victory Lane all the way to the infamous Michigan International Speedway wave that travels in the stands from turns 1-2 over to turns 3-4 and back again.
At NASCAR’s fastest track there is never a doubt that there is always something to do for every aged fan. New last year was the driver intro parade lap that made its way right through the middle of the infield where fans lined up to see and wave to their favorite driver. It is a fully action-packed weekend and you never know who you may run into on pit road or in your campground.
