Pocono Mishaps and A Birthday Surprise
Last week's race at Pocono Raceway didn’t much play into Erik Jones's hands.
It first started with practice number 1 on Friday afternoon. With a speed of 175 MPH, that was enough to place him 15th in the first practice session. During qualifying, he unfortunately did not make it past the first round and qualified 25th. In the second practice session, with a speed of 172 mph, he was able move up a spot from the first practice to 14th.
During the race, Jones was able to move up through the field little by little. However, during a late restart there was small contact made between Jones and the 22 of Joey Logano. Jones's car turned into the inside SAFER barrier wall. Logano immediately went on his radio after the incident to not only take the blame but also tell his spotter to tell the 20’s spotter that he was sorry. “I didn't mean to push him like that…” Later that evening, Jones had this to say about the race:
Not the day we wanted @poconoraceway, but we’ll keep going after it and working to get better in a couple of areas. Thanks to @DEWALTtough and all the fans for the support. Excited to go home for a few days this week. Focused on doing better @MISpeedway. #TeamDEWALT #DEWALTtough— Erik Jones (@erik_jones) June 4, 2018
Erik finished the race in 29th.
On May 29th, Jeff Gluck was able to sit down with Jones and do 12 questions with him. If you haven't read 12 questions with drivers and Jeff Gluck, I highly recommend it. It's definitely worth the read and you get to find out what your favorite drivers like to do outside of racing and other fun stuff.
What to get a dog that is going to be turning one and your sponsor is Dewalt tools? A dog house of course! Check it out in the photo from Jones's Instagram below. Throughout the month of May, Erik and some friends from Dewalt were working on a dog house to give to Oscar on his birthday. The big reveal happened on May 30th, both Oscar and Erik’s Birthday.
The next race will be at Michigan International Raceway this upcoming weekend. The first practice will be June 8th at 11:35 am Eastern Time. Qualifying will be the same day at 4:10 PM Eastern Time. Practices 2 and 3 will be on June 9th. Practice 2 starts at 9:05 am Eastern Time and practice 3 starts at 12 PM Eastern Time. The Firekeepers Casino 400 will be June 10th at 2 PM Eastern Time on your local Fox station.
Pit stop: Michigan International Raceway is Erik’s home track. He finished 13th in this race this time last year.
