About Me
March 11, 2019
Hello, Dear readers!
My history with our beloved sport of NASCAR starts off a little wonky. When I was little, like really little, (young enough I thought the car number was what place the drivers were in) I would ask every day during the summer "Is the race on today?" and my dad would laugh and say, "Not today. It comes on, on Sunday." Over the years names like Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart and Kasey Kahne, (and of course, Rusty Wallace, my dad's personal favorite) stuck out and stayed in my tiny brain.
As I grew older I slowly forgot about racing, my dad didn't have it on as much and it was honestly the last thing on my mind. In 2015 my dad somehow convinced me to do his NASCAR fantasy league and looking back I have no idea why I agreed. Hours of watching 'cars go in circles' wasn't appealing to a brooding fourteen year old in the slightest. I guess just the idea of being able to do something with my dad was the main reason I agreed. If I really think hard enough I can almost remember my mom trying to convince me because it would make my dad so happy.
If I'm being honest, it only took Kyle Busch's 2015 Sonoma race for me to realize I was one of those "live, breathe, and bleed racing" people. I was obsessed with NASCAR. I snuck a Twitter so I could see tweets from all of the drivers and cheer on my favorites of the time. I would check driver, and official accounts religiously and along the way began to really learn things about this sport. It got to the point that by the end of the year my dad, fan of twenty some years, was asking me for the latest news.
Somewhere in early 2016 Katelyn Kinnett of (then NASCARFemale) Ladies Of Speed (LOS) asked if I wanted to cover Team Penske and would you believe it if I said I turned down her offer? After about a week or something I reached back out and she gave me the page and a rundown of what to do. By March I was reporting full time coverage of Team Penske. You know how when you start something new and share it with people and immediately regret it before you even get a reaction because you're worried about what they'll say? Yeah that was me with my articles.
I got over the anxiety relatively quickly and by August was editing articles with Liz Panucci. I started to try and talk Kinnett and Panucci into a Truck series page where I could write about Harrison Burton. After a bit of time, Journey to Cup was born and I was happily typing my fingers raw every weekend.
This past year I made a really big decision, I dropped my Team Penske page. I wanted to focus more on my Burton articles and focus more on preparing for college. Now I spend my extra free time devouring books (I read thirty-three in 2018), listening to indie rock music and watching YouTube.
It's kind of unbelievable actually, to see everything I've done in the last few years typed out in front of me. So much time has passed but it certainly doesn't feel that way. The NASCAR lifestyle is a fast one, and one I love more than anything.
